Biography
Rylan Stone is a versatile and accomplished double bassist and electric bassist whose work bridges the worlds of classical performance, commercial music, studio recording, and the contemporary alternative/indie scene. A classically trained musician with a passion for experimentation, Rylan has built his career around one central goal: expanding the possibilities of the bass and reaching as many audiences as possible.
Rylan began studying classical double bass at a young age and has since developed into an accomplished performer and principal bassist. He currently serves as Principal Bassist of the Belmont Symphony Orchestra while studying Classical Double Bass Performance at Belmont University. Beyond the university and orchestral world, Rylan regularly performs with regional symphonies and ensembles throughout the Southeast. His performance career has included collaborations with internationally renowned artists, including Andrea Bocelli, and he has earned first-place recognition in multiple concerto competitions.
While classical music remains an important foundation of his musicianship, Rylan has always sought to explore beyond traditional boundaries. He is equally comfortable performing on electric bass and has become deeply involved in the commercial music and alternative/indie music scenes. His approach is rooted in the belief that strong musicianship can exist across genres, and that every musical environment offers an opportunity to learn, experiment, and create something distinctive.
Rylan is also an active studio bassist, with extensive experience recording for artists and musical projects. He approaches recording as both a performer and a creative collaborator, focusing not only on playing the notes but on finding the sound, texture, and character that best serve the music. He is constantly experimenting with tones, techniques, arrangements, and new ideas in an effort to push his playing into unexpected places.
As a founding member of the alternative/indie band Hi Spy, Rylan writes, records, performs, manages, and releases original music alongside his bandmates. Hi Spy has released two singles, including the band's most popular song, "Bite," and is currently developing its debut album. Through Hi Spy, Rylan continues to explore songwriting, production, recording, live performance, and the broader creative process behind releasing music independently.
Collaboration is at the center of Rylan's artistic philosophy. He enjoys meeting other musicians, artists, producers, and creatives and finding ways to combine different perspectives into something greater than any one individual could create alone. Whether performing in a symphony, recording in a studio, writing with Hi Spy, or playing a live commercial show, he approaches each project with curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Rylan's experience also extends beyond music. His work in the modeling industry has given him a unique understanding of presentation, movement, confidence, and stage presence. He brings those lessons with him into performance, treating the stage not simply as a place to play music, but as a space to communicate, connect, and create an experience for an audience.
For Rylan, musicianship is about more than technical ability. It is about making people feel something. His goal is to create memorable musical experiences through versatility, collaboration, experimentation, and genuine connection—whether he is performing a classical work on the double bass, laying down a bass line in the studio, or standing under the lights with Hi Spy.
